It seems to me that the cure occurs much too quickly, both finding it and then dispensing it. With 2/3 if the population infected, people dying left and right, it would seem finding the cure would really proceed slower. Even accepting that the cure could be found in a couple of years, producing the cure for the remaining 1 - 1.5 billion would take months. The part that would take the longest would be dispensing the cure. The world would be in chaos, dead bodies everywhere, other diseases becoming rampant, and then trying to go out an give medicine to millions of infected/healthy.
