You compare game violance with real life?Than you should go to the GTA forums and ask them.Ask the creators of Prototype.Ask the developers of Defcon...

i don't compare it to real life but qwhen i see my children laughing hysterically and getting excited over wiping out billions of people, even fake people i have to stop and wonder what exactly this is doing to our children. personally i see kids today who see REAL death everyday and think nothing of it, children watching videos on you tube of bums getting beat almost until dead and they think it is funny; so i really feel that we as a society nedd to ask ourselves is this really ok? the teenagers of today are the ones who will be running things in the very near future and what will that look like, a world ran by people who give no value to human life, that think watching people get beat up, murdered, and tortured is entertaining.

Come on,all humans are predators...They try to think that they are bunnies and sheep, but actually they are woolves...Its in our blood...We scare ourselves with zombies,vampires,aliens...But,actually,we are the most dangerous and ferocious species on Earth...If your kids dont kill millions, than they go to kill thousands in Prototype,or hundreds in Warhammer 40 000....Bu the way, being a killer in a game doesnt mean you are a maniac.Playing for the USA soldiers in the Call of Duty 4 doesnt mean that I wont fight for Mother Russia in real life..Being an alcoholic in Skyrim doesnt mean that I drink in real life...Real and Unreal are different...Killing fantazy people takes off you aggression and stress,so you wont kill real people...
P.c. if I still didnt change your mind, than just forbid them to play Plague inc...

RE: effect on kids
if the child can not tell the difference between real life and a video game.. they shouldnt be playing the game and its up to the parent to make that decision.

Everything is violent now days.. evening news.. baseball, soccer , dating, marrage.

Its why the kids have parents.. to determine when and mostly IF they should be playing such a game. Just dont take away or try to take away my decision to play it and enjoy it.

Do have to say that this game does push the bounds .. but how about the fallout series the planet is nuked and people are cannibals, thieves just to survive,, the elder scrolls series.. grave robbing, cannibals, ect.. GTA series..rape, murder.. senseless violence... COD..making war fun no matter what.

Perhaps a bigger question is why do humans need this kind of game in the first place and why do they enjoy them so?

RE: effect on kids
If video games are creating a society where there is no value in human life, I want to know what video game people have been playing for the past 5000 years; during the crusades, during the two world wars, during any of the numerous genocides or acts of violence that have filled human history. Unless there's a serious underlying problem I doubt anyone would be genuinely influenced by a game like Plague Inc. When you compare it to any other medium, even what they could learn in school, a series of dots on a world map is nothing at all.

RE: effect on kids
Sounds like the old cliche - I've seen something I don't agree with and now I will express my opinion rather than embrace the responsibility of correcting it myself.
No offense, but this is the true problem here. There are many instances of this prerogative in our world. Many instances that in fact are getting worse.
As I parent myself I doubt I'll be calling for the reigning in of violence, porn, drugs, war etc. I will be guiding my child through all of this until they reach the morally acceptable age for them to enjoy it too.

RE: effect on kids
Hey punkerella

Yes - I absolutely do pay attention to how children interact with the game.
Talking about Plague Inc. specifically:

I am fine for children to play Plague Inc. because players are firmly limited by the scope of their imagination. In Plague Inc. - people use the models and algorithms to tell their own story - the game does not force them to look on things in a certain way. A child may call their disease Smelly Socks and have a very amusing experience whereas a more mature adult may play the game and feel scared when they realise how vulnerable we are to a global plague.

An important point is that Plague Inc. has no blood / gore / violence in it. Unlike Plague Inc., a lot of games/films have horrific content in there which can show players things they have never seen before (nor should see) - exposing them to things they are not ready to think about.

As a general point, I think children (and adults!) tend to laugh at a lot of things - some more appropriate than others and I don't think that will ever change!

RE: effect on kids
I know one thing this game has done. It has made me more aware of all the plagues on this planet.. right now. today. It just doesnt get all the headline news attention cause theyre more interested in the sensational stuff.. ie school shootings, mall shooting stuff like that gets all the news.. too bad the news media is one of the causes this is happening more and more. oh well..

as the old saying is... if it bleeds it leads..

I don't think your children are going to be able to create a plague to wipe out human life. just saying.
