At the start it plays like a somewhat normal plague, except the governments are much quicker to react and close everything. Going through the symptoms you'll eventualy reach the one that change everything, infected people become zombies and the cure is now useless if completed. A new transmission and several abilities also unlock, including some active ones to move your zombies around. And then ... Well, you'll have to play it to find out what happens next
